Long after a fresh bloom would have wilted, dried roses hold their form. Photographed up close, the flower gives up details that are easy to miss at a normal glance fine surface grain, the way each petal layer sits against the next, and the shifting play of light across every fold.

Color changes as the moisture leaves. What was once pink settles into something richer, similar to burgundy,  while the petals draw inward and tighten, trading their open, fresh shape for something denser and more compact. The stem and calyx dry out brittle and matte, standing in clear contrast to the smoother finish of the petals.

It's that permanence that makes dried roses such a compelling subject there's no risk of catching the flower mid-decline. Every edge and crease holds sharp detail at full resolution.
