This Siam tulip is shot as a single stem, and the color takes over immediately deep purple runs from base to tip, with the petals curling and folding in a texture close to soft velvet. The green stem blends in quietly beneath it, keeping the flower itself as the clear focal point. Isolating the stem let that vertical line carry the whole image, without other blooms pulling focus.

Photographing it solo was a deliberate choice. With the purple this saturated, adding more stems would have flattened the color into a single mass. On its own, you get the full gradient the way the purple shifts and deepens depending on the angle and how the light hits it.

Despite the name, the Siam tulip isn't a true tulip it belongs to the ginger family, native to Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, Myanmar, and Cambodia, where it grows wild in forest clearings ahead of the seasonal monsoon rains. Long valued in the region for its ornamental beauty and resilience, it's since become a sought-after cut flower worldwide for its architectural form and unusually long vase life.
