One dried protea stands upright in the vase, its layered, textured petals catching the light in a way that shows off the sculptural form clearly. A second bloom sits beside it, resting at an angle rather than upright that contrast between the two is what makes the composition work.

I chose to shoot two together rather than one because the upright stem alone can feel a little static. Adding the second bloom at rest gives the frame some natural movement, without needing anything artificial to create it one flower doing the standing, the other doing the leaning.

Dried protea holds up well for this kind of shot. The earthy, muted palette doesn't compete with the composition, and the texture  layered, slightly rough, more structural than soft reads clearly under close light. Together, the two blooms create a simple but balanced still life: one bold and upright, one relaxed, both working off each other rather than repeating the same pose.

That contrast  upright against relaxed, structure against ease is what makes this a well-structured still life portrait. It's not a symmetrical or overly styled arrangement; the balance comes from the two blooms playing off each other naturally, giving the piece a composed feel without looking staged.
